Sydney to Fiji - Majestic Princess

Our first three days were at sea – featuring the Production Show Fiera – an amazing show and stunning talent and costumes. We also had a Johnny Cash tribute by Daniel Thompson and a lovely vocalist The Only Arena and of course the various game shows.

Mystery Island (Aneityum Island) was the tiniest island; you could walk around the whole island in 40 minutes. We had to use the water shuttles and it was quite windy, but I went ashore just to walk the beach and take a dip in the ocean. The Production Show Sweet Soul Music – was again, a wonderful performance.

Then another sea day and a new show by vocalist Daniel Thompson.

Suva, Fiji – Dale went on a tour that included the Natural History Museum, whilst I had a bit of an adventure. After about an hour’s bus ride we were treated to a long boat (really a punt which carried the fellow who steered the outboard motor and four passengers in tandem) ride over to an island to view the Naililili Cathedral on the Rewa River Delta. It was pouring rain and the church was interesting with some amazing stained glass which was brought over from France, but very dilapidated and in dire need of repair. An amazing edifice which was completed in 1901, but never became the Catholic center of Fiji, which had been the plan. From there we went to the village of Nasali where we were welcomed with a folkloric show of dancing and singing – the children were adorable and wanted to shake our hands and waved and greeted us with ‘bula’. It was good to get back to the ship and dry off.

And then all plans went up in smoke as Cyclone Mal (a category 3) decided to come to Fiji. Our itinerary had included two more stops in Fiji, but our Captain made a very wise decision and we left before we felt the full impact of the cyclone. As it was, the seas were 4 – 5 metres, which actually was no big deal on this large a ship, but everyone was quite happy about the change. This did mean two more days at sea, but Dale was prepared and gave two more presentations to fill in the time. We also took a swing dance class that was great fun. Kevin Brando was the vocalist and did Elton John and Billy Joel songs. Then another Production Show Fantastic Journey had us mesmerized. It was a world class performance and we were enthralled. The next vocalist was Donna Campbell who did a tribute to Dolly Parton.
