Australia - November 2023

Had a lovely (long) flight to Sydney, then caught the train up to Newcastle, NSW.

Don and Hilary picked us up at the Broadmeadow Station and took us to their place in Salamander Bay. Had a nice refreshing dip in the pool and the hot tub, and after a wonderful dinner, managed to get a good night's sleep.

Went sailing on their beautiful Hunter 45, and after a picnic lunch onboard, headed to Birubi Point for coffee and cake, followed by another great dinner.

Did a few errands in the morning and managed to get back before the rain (as in buckets being poured from the sky). Don and Hilary's son Jonathan, wife Katie, kids Jayden and Madison, came for the afternoon and we all enjoyed a delicious lasagna dinner with all the fixings.

More rain on Sunday, so Hilary and I traipsed out to see a display by local artisans, then on to a sort of flea market while Don and Dale played pool. Still raining, so a movie and more visiting.

Packed up in the morning then Don and Hilary drove us back to Newcastle for a tour of Fort Scratchley - a great history lesson. Norm Bowes (96 years old and a live wire) was kind enough to give us a tour with some fun and interesting stories. What a treasure (both Norm and the Fort)! We stopped at a few more points of interest followed by a fish and chip lunch. then we were taken back to the station at Broadmeadow for our return trip to Sydney. Thank you Don and Hilary for a wonderful visit and a chance to reconnect and relive some great moments in our shared history.

We stayed at the Hyde Park Inn in Sydney and did a bit of a walk through town with a stop at St. Mary's Cathedral on our way to The Rocks. That did us in, so had an early night as we would be boarding the Majestic Princess ship in the morning.
