Castello Bracciano, Lazio, Italy

After a leisurely breakfast, we drove for about 45 minutes to the Castello Bracciano in Lazio, Italy. We were thoroughly captivated by the size and architecture. It sits high above Lake Bracciano with stunning views all around. It was built in 1470 and was a military defence structure as well as a civilian residence of the feudal lords of the period. It was built by the Orsini family, but was sold to the Odescalchi family in 1696, who have retained it to this day.

We were given a booklet to guide us through the myriad of rooms, which retained so many incredibly intact artifacts. What a great history lesson!
