Celebrity Solstice - Alaska

Monday - at sea. Marshall gave a talk on the Wonders of Alaska, followed by Dale's "Alaska - Air, Land and Sea" presentation, which was well-received. The afternoon was relaxing, and we had a relaxing hot tub before getting ready for "Evening Chic." The show, "Rock City," featured the very talented production cast of singers, dancers, and acrobats.

Tuesday - Marshall spoke about Skagway in the morning, and Dale gave a talk called "Wild Alaska - Frontiers and Scoundrels," which included the story of Soapy Smith. We arrived at Icy Strait Point after lunch and walked to the Visitors' Centre. There, we saw several humpback whales showing off in the bay, with their flukes and pectoral fins visible. It was a spectacular sight. Afterwards, we explored the old cannery, which is now a museum and gift shop featuring local artists. That evening, Tommy Proulx, a saxophonist, was the headliner, and we stayed up for a comedy show by Steven Scott.

Wednesday - The ship was docked in Skagway all day. We attended a theatrical performance called 'The Days of 98 Show', which has been running for 102 years. It told the story of Soapy Smith and included singing and the Can Can. It also featured 'some' members of the audience! Our naturalist, Barb Lake, came on board and joined us for dinner. The evening's entertainment was Heather Sullivan with her show, "Ebony and Ivory Legends."

Thursday we were up bright and early as the ship made it's way up Endicott Arm to the Dawes Glacier. It was a beautiful day and Barb did a great job narrating on the bridge, then did a talk on Juneau in the theatre. Dale followed with his talk on Amelia Earhart. After lunch we were in Juneau. We took the Goldbelt Tram up to the top of Mt. Roberts. It was a lovely hike through the forest for some spectacular views. We were back in time for dinner then watched the production cast put on a very lively and entertaining show called Broken Strings.

Friday had Barb talking about Alaskan wildlife followed by Dale telling everyone about what to see and do in Ketchikan. After lunch we walked up to the Tongass Historical Museum which featured life in Ketchikan. It was Evening Chic, so we got all dressed up and met Barb and her husband Adam for dinner. The entertainer was the amazing Paige Thompson whom we had seen previously, but still couldn't figure out how she did it!

Saturday was a sea day. Barb started out very early with a talk on the Aurora Borealis and Dale did his Top Gun presentation. The audiences have been very kind and appreciative of all their talks. We met up with Barb and Adam for lunch, then had another very entertaining matinee with Paige Thompson. After packing, we sat up on the deck for about an hour before meeting Barb and Adam for dinner. The Production cast performance was Amade, which we thoroughly enjoy every time!

Sunday - back in Vancouver to pick up our car from Joel's and hop on the ferry.
