Lucca, Italy

We docked in Livorno, Italy then took a coach to Lucca - a 15th century walled city.  Apparently in the day there were 84 churches in Lucca; today only around 42, of which some are museums and art galleries, etc.  We walked by several, but were given some history on the three posted here - Church of San Michele, Church of San Frediano, and San Paulino.  The Guinigi Tower is also interesting - no one was allowed to build a tower higher than the official one, so the Guinigi family planted several Oak trees on top of their tower, so that it would be the tallest!  Also, the local Amphitheatre is now an oblong piazza with houses built on top of the walls.  An interesting history, especially regarding Napoleon's sister, Elisa.
