Civitavecchia, Italy

Say that fast three times - no, never mind, it is hard enough to say once!
Civitavecchia is where we got off the ship.  We are staying at a very quaint B&B (il Ponentino) - the owner picked us up from the port and even offered his car for the afternoon.  Instead, we decided to walk around the old historic part of town and take in the monuments and local sights.  Tomorrow, Paulo will drive us to the Leonardo da Vinci/Fiumicino airport in Rome to fly to Malta, then on to Cyprus.  Meanwhile, here are some of the pictures we took today.  Oh yes, and a map of our cruise.

Civitavecchia is, in fact, a city rich of monuments and archeological sites that prove the historic presence of many cultures and civilisations. The city, developed from an Etruscan village, took on an increasingly strategic role in Roman agethanks to the proximity to Rome and to emperor Trajan, founder of the city. Later, in Medieval age, the different Popes in charge made a lot of contributions to the city,  commissioning the construction of historic buildings, that you an still admire to this day.
