Galapagos

Monday - Another excitement filled zodiac tour - Punta Vincente Roca, Isabela Island, but this time turtles!  And of course more boobies, pelicans, terns, two Galapagos hawks (one juvenile), penguins, sea lions, fur seals.

And then the snorkelling with the turtles and penguins and sea lions!

We could never have imagined so many iguanas at one time, in one place as we saw on our zodiac tour today - Punta Espinoza, Fernandina Island.

If we could describe a place where you are welcomed, respected and given the opportunity to discover, appreciate and explore then Galapagos would be it.  Every day we are so surprised by the adventures and sighting of wildlife that we have never quite experienced before.  Animals that are so prolific and unafraid of humans in their presence.  The interpreters provide so much insight into their nature and development and adaptations. Colliding of currents and dramatic landscapes from lava formation create a geological canvas to let creative life unfold in unique and fascinating ways. It is almost too much for the mind to take in. Exhausted from the adventures, we collapse into bed with a sense of gratitude and awe.
Tomorrow is another day of mystery and discovery that we have never quite experienced before. I hope you enjoy the photos and consider if you would like this place to move to the top of ‘your bucket list’.

Tuesday - Another busy and exciting day!  After an informative hike up to get a wonderful view of Lake Darwin, we kayaked around the bay.  The highlight was coming upon 30 or so penguins swimming up and down the rocky shore. What fascinating creatures.  Caleta Tagus, Isabela Island.

Our zodiac tour this afternoon was the best.  We got to see a humpback whale mama and her baby up close, frolicking in the (very choppy) waves.  Not only did they breach and show their flukes, but they came straight up out of the water and crashed back into the water several times.  What a sight!

After that, the driver took us over to the mangroves and we had a delightful calm cruise through the waterways.  We saw more penguins, turtles, an eagle ray and seven or eight golden rays.  I don’t think it can get much better!  Bahia Elizabeth, Isabela Island.
