Ruby Princess - Vancouver to Hawaii and back - Maui & Kauai

Had a wonderful visit with Joel which included a nice relaxing sauna before bed. Of course, we went to Cora's for breakfast in the morning after our usual walk around Stanley Park, before heading down to the port to board the Ruby Princess. We managed to get onboard in time for a late lunch, then had a leisurely afternoon in a sheltered spot on the ship to soak up some sun and relax in the hot tub before unpacking. Dinner was superb as usual and our entertainment for the evening was a pianist we had seen before - Tom Franek, who put on an even better show this time.

At sea - we had the whole day off as Dale wasn't scheduled to speak, so we listened to two other speakers talk about Hawaii, then caught up on the computer and reading. It was a bit chillier, so no lounging about before or after our hot tub. Dinner was fabulous again and our evening's entertainment in the theatre was 'The Comety Magic of Levent', followed by a very funny comedian, Andrew Grose, in Club Fusion. Both were a big hit.

At sea - back to listen to more talks about Hawaii and meet some of the officers before Dale did his presentation.  Got all dressed up for dinner as it was a formal night. Stardust was the production show in the theatre, followed by a new show by Andrew Grose in Club Fusion. Another fun evening.

At sea - more talks on Hawaii then Dale's presentation, and after lunch a lecture on whales. There was a vocalist - Staci Wilson singing Soul music. She was very good, but I didn't know many of her selections. Then the usual game show (similar to Jeopardy).

At sea - starting with the talks about Hawaii then Dale's lecture. There was also a talk on the ship's navigation. We finally caught up with the weather, and spend an hour or so out on the deck. Showtime was called Vintage Vinyl with vocalist Drew Pournelle. The games shows were 'Musical Connections' and 'TV Themes Trivia'.

At sea - finishing up on the talks about the Hawaiian Islands that we were visiting followed by Dale. The afternoon talk was about Sea Turtles and Seals, then again, caught the beautiful weather out on the pool deck. The evening's entertainment was the production show - Colors of the World - magnificent. Levent did a second show in the Explorer's Lounge, which was again, lots of fun.

Kahului, Maui - we walked to a 'Swap Market' which was anything but. There were top end crafts, beautiful and expensive, along with handmade clothing, jewellery, etc. It took over an hour to see everything. After lunch on the ship, we retraced our steps a bit to the beach for a walk and a dip and to watch the foil sails. It was partially cloudy, so not too hot. Tom Franek was back in the theatre for another great show.

Nawiliwili, Kauai - it was a bit of a long bus ride, but well worth it. First we stopped at Spouting Horn Beach for a photo op of a very noisy blowhole. It was certainly worth the stop. Our destination though, was the Waimea Canyon. It is touted as being the Grand Canyon of the Pacific by Mark Twain. It was really beautiful and very colourful. Did a quick jaunt to the beach after lunch then listened to Drew Pournelle in a new show in the theatre.
