Valencia, Spain

Valencia, Spain – I have included a couple of pictures of some incredible architecture in Valencia, on our way to Bocairent – a Medieval village atop a mountain in the Serra Mariola Natural Park.  Almost every building and bridge in Bocairant is constructed from rock or carved into it.  The bullring (still in use, but mostly for concerts etc.) is completely carved out from the rock.  It took 60 years to complete as the workers were locals who would work in the fabric industry when possible, and work on the bullring when laid off.  We also got to taste (and buy) the famous Herbero – a regional liquor made out of the local herbs (secret recipe, but they grow over a thousand varieties of herbs in the area.  The shop is in a cave built into the rock under the residences – they used to keep their donkeys there, but the area is now partly accessible by (very small) cars.  And yes, it was a bit chilly!
