Monte Carlo, Monaco
Actually, we drove up to Eze first (pronounced ehzz), which is a medieval village atop a mountain. There is no way in or out except for a narrow path which crosses two drawbridges. This village fortress was never conquered until the advent of cannons and bullets. It is a quaint little village with a couple of 5 Star hotels and several lovely little boutique shops. Not somewhere that too many people want to actually live, as everything has to be hauled in on foot. They make use of dollies coming down, and a snow blower type contraption with a large square bucket on the front to haul things up. In the old days they used donkeys and occasionally horses.
From Eze, we stopped at the Fragonard perfume factory. It was very educational, especially regarding essential oils, and they did have some lovely, light scents – but alas, no perfumes for me!
