South America - Buenos Aires to Falkland Islands

What an adventure!  Had a very uneventful ferry crossing to visit with Joel for the day – then things started to go sideways!  Our flight from Vancouver to Mexico City was four hours late which meant that we missed our flight from Mexico City to Santiago, Chile – which meant that we missed our hotel in Santiago and our flight to Buenos Aires the next day as well as our hotel in Buenos Aires.  What should have been a two-day trip turned into a four-day trip with no sight-seeing along the way.

So, upon arriving in Buenos Aires, we headed directly to the port – but things weren’t going smoothly there either!  The ship was delayed by about five hours and a few minutes after settling down to wait, the power went out and therefore – the air conditioning went out!!!  Thank goodness it was only 30°C, so we were just slightly uncomfortable.  They handed out bottles of water and granola bars and crackers to tide us over until we made it onboard.

When we finally boarded the ship, all was well - at least until our first port of call, Puerto Madryn.  Due to 3-4 metre swells, we were unable to dock, so carried on (an extra sea day) to Port Stanley in the Falklands.  Thankfully, the weather cleared up in time and we got to go ashore!!! We had a fabulous, up close and personal, visit with the Gentoo penguins!  It was delightful.  It was certainly worth the hour+ drive to Bertha’s Beach to be able to walk in and amongst the penguins.  We have some fabulous video and amazing photos.
