Hope you all had a Happy Easter. Our wonderful little village of Kouklia was teaming with activities for the whole weekend. On Sunday we finally managed to catch a couple of things. We sat at our favourite Kafeneio savouring the local brew to watch the kids having egg and spoon races, potato sack races etc. The fireworks later were superb.
Monday we were invited to a Cypriot neighbours to have a feast with some of the family - only 30 were there as Loukas and Nikki were back in Canada for a visit and others could not get enough time off to make it. Dale got to hang out with the men drinking Zivania as they barbecued the souvla, chicken and pigeon (and you are supposed to eat the bones and all). We were so stuffed after all the local delicacies we could barely manage the home-grown fruit and the fabulous desserts. A wonderful time was had by all.
Tuesday we were out for lunch again at Linda and Peter's. What a treat, everything was so fresh and tasty.
Wednesday had our village bridge club taking on the village of Pissouri in a rematch. We still came second, but held our own - way better than last year. So, maybe next year. Dinner at Secret Valley was great and we got in a bit of dancing too.
Now I am beginning to figure out why I was knackered on Thursday! We had our usual bridge here in Kouklia and almost everyone was dragging. I guess the 30 hands of bridge on Wednesday wasn't as relaxing as it seemed at the time.
Oh no - I had to cook on Friday! Thank goodness we had visited Lefteris at his new seafood shop in Paphos. Yummy scallops and fresh local vegies - gotta love it.
I drove Dale to the airport today then rushed back to join our walking group. It was a gorgeous day with a few clouds to keep us from getting overheated. The walk along the cliffs at Pissouri Jetty was spectacular. The scenery was breathtaking and the wildflowers were out in great profusion. As you can see, I finally found the orchids too.
So now, back to reality. Unfortunately the house didn't clean itself all week nor did the laundry, so I have a few things to get done before hosting bridge on Wednesday. Dale has booked himself a golf game or two in Cairo so no need to worry about him.
Take care and ttys.
Love,
Laurel
