Abandoned Turkish Village

Just out for another jaunt while the weather is still holding up at 25C with a few threatening clouds, but no rain. Good for the walk, not so good for everything else. I have posted some pictures of this abandoned Turkish Village before, but that was when we drove to it. I found out today that it is only about one and a half hours walk from Kouklia. Mind you that also means one and a half hours to get home again! Hazel and I and the dogs (Spike and Millie) started in the hills of Kouklia and came home via the Diarizos riverbed which is still dry, but will change soon when the rains come in earnest. One of the photos shows the clay in the riverbed that is layered like paper. It is also very hard so would make a great pot. We are still scouting out a walk to take our walking group on, but this one was a bit long and arduous for a few of our members, so we will keep searching.

Saturday, November 14, 2009 - Souskiou, Cyprus

After attending the Archaeological Society lecture on Friday, Linda, Pat, Hazel and I struck out to get an up close look at the digs in Souskiou. Souskiou dates back to 3000BC and is right on the outskirts of Kouklia. Here are a few pictures from our walk.

Nov. 10, 2009 Cyprus

Another fine walk on this lovely island. We went to Foinikaria just north of Lemesos. It was a bit of an endurance test as you can see in the photos, but a gorgeous day and of course, lunch afterwards. Again, the pictures do not do it justice. You have to come and see for yourself.
