October 26, 2009 Cyprus

Here are some pictures of the last couple of days. Another fabulous walk, this time at Episkopi with lunch at the Kava Taverna. Then a motorcycle ride up to Anoiyra to visit the Olive Oil Museum. We also finally met the new Priest at church this Sunday. He is from Fredericton, NB, so his Canadian accent was very obvious.
Dale has another week off, which is most unusual since he is normally asked to go back to work a day or two earlier than expected. So, he gets a quiet week at home, since I didn't know he would be here and didn't plan too many events. At least this way he can recover from all the activity before work.
Hope all is well there and you get some sunshine soon. It is raining here today (good news) but still 26C.
Take care.
Love,
Laurel and Dale

October 21, 2009 Cyprus

Aphrodite Hills Performance

Hi there,
Just a quick note on life in Cyprus. We have kept up a remarkable pace the last couple of weeks since Dale has been home and he has had to catch up with friends and events to last him when he goes back to work. Actually, I think he will be going back to work to relax.
Besides being invited out to lunches and dinners, I have dragged him to a couple of dance lessons, bridge games, walks, a wine tasting at the Linos Winery, a variety show at Aphrodite Hills, the Nicosia Horse Races, and an archaeological lecture. And it doesn't look like it will slow down quite yet.

Nicosia Horse Races

I will probably send along some photos after our next walk on Saturday. It has been good though, as these events get us out and about and seeing more of Cyprus, not to mention learning more of its history.

So, needless to say, we are enjoying ourselves and especially the weather. It is hard to wish for the much needed rain while we are gadding about in shorts and sandals, but we do know that it will come eventually. Meanwhile, sunscreen anyone?
Love,
Laurel and Dale

Laneia Walk - October 10, 2009

Grape Arbor & Olive Press

These pictures don't do it justice, but it is worth a try to show you the gorgeous walk we were on. Our walking group has started up again after a hiatus over the summer; most people find it too hot to walk in the summer (us included). Laneia is about 20 minutes north of Lemesos, which is about half an hour east of Paphos. It is on the way to the Troodos Mountains, up in the hills. The weather has still been fantastic - around 29C every day, with hardly a cloud in the sky.
We usually stop for lunch at a local taverna after the walk. The Laneia Taverna was a lovely spot framed in greenery looking out over a quaint little artisans' shop. As a matter of fact, the entire village was a quaint, cosy little place and we loved traipsing around after lunch. The meze (a buffet of many local dishes) was also wonderful and the beer was cold. What more could you ask for?
